• Acrobat Distiller 3.02, Adobe. (v 4.01 is available). Program to make documents in the 'Acrobat' format, which is operating system independent. Version 3.02 does not run under Windows XP.
• ActiveSync 4.5 Beta 2. Microsoft. Software to synchronize data and files between Windows and a PDA running Windows Mobile.
• Adobe Reader v 8, Adobe. Read 'Acrobat' formatted documents.
• Ad-Aware SE Plus v 1.061. Lavasoft. Software to monitor spam and advertizing and remove their cookies and files.
• Analog v 6. Stephen Turner. Free website analysis and reporting software for Windows.
• AnyDVD v 5.8.3.1. Slysoft Com. Software DVD region decoder. Bypasses DRM restrictions on DVDs and CDs.
• arj v 2.50a international version (v 2.84 available), from ARJ Software. DOS file compression utility. Shareware.
• ATI tool v 0.0.22, Techpowerup. Free software to alter ATI graphic card settings including overclocking.
• AutoRoute v 8.54 Microsoft Road route planning, maps with GPS support, street and area code locations.
• Autoruns v 8.54. Microsoft. List and control startup programs.
• Blogger. Blogger. Free blog service run by Google. I have a blog there.
• Cardbox Professional v 3 build 4240, Cardbox Software. Small footprint relational database with fast search functions. I used it to write a book (eosinophils.pdf, 807-KB), which illustrated the value of this software in medical research
• Clinstat dated 08.05.96, Martin Bland. Free statistical analysis DOS utility program.
• ConCat/Split v 3.3.2.0, JD Design. (v 5 available) Addition to Windows 'Explorer' to allow large files to be put on several diskettes and reassembled later. Shareware.
• Convert (Madison) v 4.10. Joshua H. Madison. Free measurements conversion program.
• CorelDRAW Essentials v 2. Corel. Illustration and layout software
• Cool Edit v 96, formerly from Syntrillum, this digital audio editor for Windows 95 and Windows NT has been rebranded as 'Adobe Audition' v 1.5.
• CopyQM v 3.24, New Technologies Inc. (v 3.26 available) Duplicate diskettes of many different sizes and types including Microsoft DMF and Macintosh high-density disks and it runs in a DOS window.
• DigiGuide v 8.3 build 1096, GipsyMedia Ltd. Broadcast schedules and descriptions for UK radio and TV programs.
• Diskmon v 2.01, Sysinternals. Free software that logs and displays all hard disk activity.
• DivX codec and DivX Pro Player v 5.2 & 2.5.4. DivX. Video compression program and player.
• Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional v 9 sp1, Scansoft. Voice recognition software.
• Dreamweaver MX 2004 v 7.0.1. Macromedia. (v 8 available) Web development software.
• Dskchk.cmd. TechRepublic. Batch file to run chkdsk and defragments hard disks.
• DU Meter v 3.50.. Hagel Technologies. Monitor and measure network download and uploads
• DVD Workshop v 2.231. Ulead Systems GmbH. Software to create DVDs with menu navigation, multiple subtitles, and multiple audio tracks with Dolby Digital AC-3
• EDIUS Pro v 4. Canopus. Software to download, edit and output digital video.
• Encarta Premium Suite 2004, Microsoft. (v 2006 is available) Multimedia Encyclopedia with dictionaries, maps etc.
• EXIFUtils v 2.6.2. Hugsan Pty. Ltd. Read and manage EXIF and IPTC information from image files.
  EZ Gig II v 8.2.2, Apricorn. Software to clone hard drives and make images of partitions and drives.
• Family Tree Maker 2006,  Ancestry.com. (v 2006 is available).         Genealogy program.
• FileSync v 2.18, Fileware. Synchronize files and directories. FileDiff v 1.03, a program to compare the contents of two files and CmdSync v 2.0, a 'batch mode' version, is particularly useful for updating files across networks. It can ignore the 2 second time signature on identical files under different operating systems. Also FTPsync v 2.06 and LastChance v 1.03.
• Firefox v 2.0.0.1, Mozilla.org. Free web browser. SiteAdvisor plugin.
• Flywheel v 3.35, Plannet Crafters Inc. Additional functions provided for the Microsoft wheel mouse. (No longer available)
• Frhed v 1.0.156 by Raihan Kibria. Free HEX editor.
• Fritz v 6 (v 10 is available), Chessbase GmbH. Chess program.
• FrontPage 2002, service pack 2, HTML editor and Web site software, Microsoft. WWW design, editing and web management software. Visual InterDev is an advanced application that provides for active server pages.
• Fugawi v 3.1, Northport Systems Inc. (The update is called 'Fugawi Global Navigator'). Moving map global positioning (GPS) software.
• GARtrip v 207. Heinrich Pfeifer. Software to import and work with Garmin and Magellan GPS data. It can create records, maps and routes with waypoints and tracks.
• G7ToWin v A.00.200e, Ron Henderson's free software to download GPS data and display bitmaps to MS Windows computers. Editing and uploading are included.
• GeoClock v 8.4, Joe Ahlgre World maps with overlays of daylight, sun and moon positions in real time.
• Gmail Drive v 1.0.10. Bjarke Viskoe. Enabling Gmail for online storage of files up to 2-GB

• MultiMon Taskbar v 2.1. Roman Voska. Taskbar for two or three monitors connected to one computer.
• Music Label 2006 v 12 (2007 v 13 is available). CodeAero Com. Database for CDs and music files.
• MyNetWatchman v 1.25-1, MyNetWatchman. Free software to monitor and assess potentially dangerous probes on firewalls.
• Nero v 6.6.0.18, Ahead Software gmbh. (v 7 is available). Software to create most types of CD, DVD disks and including MP3 encoding software.
• nRoute v 2.3. Garmin. Software to enable a notebook computer to use Garmin Mapsource and show location data from an attached GPS in real time.
• Office 2002 Professional, Microsoft. (v 2003 available).
• OmniPage Standard v 15, Nuance Communications Inc. Scanning and optical character recognition.
• Ordnance Survey maps of the UK CD-ROM, 2nd. edition, Attica.
• Organizer v 6.1, IBM. Personal information manager (PIM).
• Outlook 2002 service pack 2, Microsoft. Internet email client program with contact, calendar and other components.
• Outlook Express v 6, Microsoft. Usenet news client program included with Internet Explorer v 6.
• Oxford English Dictionary v 2., Oxford University Press The 'OED' on CD.  An update of 'Cdilla' from Macrovision is needed to verify the CD installation, under Windows XP.
• Oxford Textbook of Medicine, 3rd ed., Oxford University Press. A comprehensive medical textbook on CD.
• PageMaker v 6.5 (v 7 is available), Adobe and 6.52 update. Word-processing, page mark-up and pre-printing software. It has been succeeded by Adobe's 'InDesign' software.
• PGP Desktop Home v 9.0.2, PGP International. 'Pretty Good Privacy' encryption software. It uses the clipboard to encrypt and decrypt files including email messages, using pubic and private 'keys'. It has plug-ins for Microsoft's 'Outlook' and 'Outlook Express' and other communications software. It supports secure communications between computers. Matthew Richardson provides free 'time stamping' and 'proof of posting' services for electronic documents.
• Partition Magic v 8.5. Symantec Corp. Software to alter partitions on hard drives.
• Photoshop CS with ImageReady CS, Adobe. Commercial-standard graphics editing programs.
• Photoshop Elements v 5.0. Adobe. Software to index, sort and manage digital graphics, especially home photos. It replaces 'Album'.
• Photo Studio v 2.62, Stuffware. )v 2.67 available) It can be used to add GPS data automatically to EXIM data in JPEG photos taken when GPS tracks were being recorded.
• PolaColor Insight v 5.1. Polaroid Corp. It appears to have been abandoned by Polaroid. Scanning software for the Polaroid CS-4000 film scanner.
• PowerToys Microsoft. The versions for Windows 2000, NT and 9* include 'Command Prompt Here' v 1.1, 'Desktop Menu', 'Explore From Here', 'Find X' v 1.2, 'Send to X' v 1.2, 'Tweak UI' v 1.1 and 'Shortcut Target Menu' v 1.2  PowerToys are  available for Windows XP and an update was released on 16/07/2003.
• Premiere v 6.5, Adobe. (Update now called 'Premiere Pro' v 1.5). Non-linear DV editing program.
• Prevx Pro 2005, Prevx Ltd. Computer intrusion prevention software.
• ProCoder Express for EDIUS v 1.02 Canopus. Service Pack.
• Quick Unicode input tool. Cardbox. Utility to enable all Unicode characters using keyboard 'Alt-number' entries.
• Quicken 2002 Deluxe and Business, R 1, Intuit. ('Quicken' no longer sold for the UK. QuickBooks available) Personal and business finance software.
• QuickTime MoviePlayer v 7.1.3.100, Apple. Program to play QuickTime movie files.
• RealPlayer v 10.5, Real Networks Inc. Streaming video and '*.ram' player.
  Registry Mechanic v 6, PC Tools. Software to remove problem entries in the Windows Registry and compact it.
• RoboGEO v 5.0.12. TimTech Computer. Software to work with EXIF entries, including GPS data, in digital photos. .
• RoboPDF v 3.1. eHelp. (Macromedia bought eHelp and now the program is FlashPaper 2). Creates PDF files from Microsoft's 'Office' applications.
• Serv-U v 3, Rhinosoft.com. (v 6.1 available). ftp server for Windows.
• ShareScope Plus v 5.03. Ionic Information. Shareware program to monitor UK shares and maintain share portfolios. Data from Hemmington Scott.
• SkyMap Pro v 11.0.4 SkyMap Software. Astronomical companion software including star mapping and 'planetarium'.
• Skype v 3. Skype Technologies S.A. Internet-based phone calling.
• TheSkySix Professional, Software Bisque Inc. Astronomical companion software including star mapping and 'planetarium'.
• SnagIt v 8.1 (v 8.2 available) TechSmith Corp. Shareware screen capture program with many advanced features.
• SpamBayes v 0.8. Mark Hammond. Addin for Microsoft's 'Outlook'. It uses Bayesian and learning algorithms to detect, redirect and/or delete spam email automatically, see a review.
• Spybot-S&D v 1.4. PepiMK Software. Free program by Patrick M. Kolla to detect and remove (a) inadvertently downloaded 'spybot' and 'adbot' modules and (b) selected usage tracks, which may used by unscrupulous organizations to 'secretly' monitor and target users in a variety of unwanted ways.
• TapeCalc v 2.2. PC Magazine, US Edition, August 2002. Free replacement for Microsoft's 'Calculator' program.
• TaxCalc 2006 v 6.80.TaxCalc. Software to prepare Inland Revenue returns then upload them using 'File By Internet'. 
• TextPad v 4.7.3, Helios Software Solutions. Shareware text editor with spell check, block editing, macros etc. My replacement for Notepad.
• Theyr.net. Theyr.net. Weather forecasting.
• TitleMotion Pro for Canopus v 5.1. Canopus. Title program for use with EDIUS.
• Total Recorder Professional v 6, High Criteria. An universal sound recorder which can capture live audio, line-in and CD. It can convert different sound formats to WAVE. Shareware US$11.95.
• True Image Corporate Workstation v 9.1.3854, Acronis Inc. Hard drive, partition and file backup software.
• Virtual CD v 7.1.0.1 ‘H+H GmbH’. Software emulation of a CD-ROM drive to play CDs stored on the hard drive.
• VisualRoute 2007, Visualware Inc. Shareware program which provides a graphical 'traceroute' and network analysis, particularly useful when web pages are not loading as quickly as expected.
• Winamp Pro v 5.32. Winamp. Audio player and conversion program.
• Windows 2000 Professional. Microsoft. Resource Kit. Service Pack 3.
• Windows Defender, v1593. Microsoft. Spyware scanning and removal tool, with real-time system monitoring.
